While Dr Manhattan may be close to omnipotent his biggest weakness is his inhuman nature. He may be able to defeat Thanos, but he wouldnt do it because Thanos's actions are based on a logic that ist actually legit. Dr Manhattan would totally understand Thanos, maybe even agree with him since he doesnt have anny moral concernes. So even If he could stop Thanos, he wouldnt do it because he would see the logic and necessity in his doing. (Sorry for my grammar&spelling, i'm not a native speaker)

The MCU version for sure. The comic version can erase the entire universe and rebuild it in the blink of an eye, kill creatures like the living tribunal that can change everything in the universe at will. So i dont think any version of dr. Manhattan comes close to this kind of power.

An omnipotent character who let millions die because he might forget to stop one nuclear warhead, and had fun in the vietnam war, turning into a giant and killing people with lasers. He's supposed to be a god in its universe, but for me it's the most dumb god any fiction ever had. I judge only by the movie, I don't know much more about it, maybe he's better in the comics.

Exept the glove can only control the aspects in only its universe. Dr. Manhattan is multiversal and i believe even in higher dimensional being. Dr. Manhattan > Myxzptlk > Superman where in this situation the one above is always infinitely more powerfull than the other.

The infinity gauntlet makes Thanos just as omnipotent. Except that marvel shows his powers to much more extent while the Watchmen books were a lot more theoretical about Manhattan‘s power range. Imo Thanos with the gauntlet wins.
