They are both great actors with flops to blockbuster type roles and films. They both have their highs and roles and both of their careers took a nose dive due to personal scandals. Looking at behind the scenes, it also looks like they are enjoyable to work with. Can we stop comparing apples to oranges. They are both great in their own way.

Johnny Depp is better no argument about it, he is unique in it's style also a good actor for surreal and fantasy films, downey jr was a good actor back then and a good actor now but there is a GAP, slowly covered by ass-kissers who know downey jr from his action hero movies and less from his 'normal pictures' like STOP comparing actors with their real-life doings or with their marketing schemes, look at their movies and judge from there who is a better actor.

I am personaly cant wait for the third movie of fantastic beast, where I think mr.Depp did very good. RDJ also did very good in james holmes movies and I hope after endgame the third movie of james holmes starred by RDJ would come out. Both of them are an excellence actors, their names rocketed with one specific role for each of 'em. Who doesnt, So does tom cruise, steven seagal, arnold, jackie chan, jet lee, vin diesel, stalone, statham, van damme, and to be honest, back in my childhood I had no F-ing idea who is Keanu Reeves until I saw matrix. I almost mention all expandables cast there, btw. The only actor I know play well with any role given to him is.. Dwayne - The Rock - Johnson.
